Feature · Caption Retiming

Re-sync captions to any cut,
in seconds.

Upload your existing SRT or VTT. We force-align every cue to your transcript's word-level timings and emit a retimed file — cue text preserved verbatim, only the timings change.

Not sure what is wrong with the file? Check its timing free, no signup.

The problem

Editors re-cut. Captions don't.

A new cut means every caption in your existing SRT now lands on the wrong frame. Paying a vendor to rebuild from the new cut is slow and expensive. Hand-retiming in a subtitle editor doesn't scale past a few episodes. And nobody is going to let you reopen the original transcript project just to nudge timings.

You don't need new captions. You need the same captions, on the new timeline.

How it works

Three steps, synchronous, under a second.

01
Attach your SRT or VTT
At run creation or anytime after the run completes. Upload directly from the run form, a shared folder, or via API.
02
We align every cue
Analyze transcribes the media at the word level, then runs a Needleman–Wunsch alignment between your cue text and the transcript. Each cue lands on its real word boundaries.
03
Download retimed files
Retimed SRT, retimed VTT, and a drift-quality report are added to the run alongside your other artifacts. Ready to ship.
What you get

Retimed files + a trustable quality report.

Verbatim cue text preserved
We never touch the words. Only timings change. Your editor approval, legal review, and localization QA still hold.
Drift-quality report
Cue count, cues retimed, cues unmatched, mean drift, max drift, quality bucket (excellent / good / marginal / poor). JSON artifact per run.
Unmatched cues kept safe
If a cue can't be matched against the transcript, it keeps its original timing and is flagged in the report. No silent drops.
Language mismatch guard
If your caption file looks like one language and the detected media is another, we stop before producing misaligned output. Override is one field away.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which formats are supported?

SRT (SubRip) and WebVTT, inbound and outbound. We also emit a JSON drift-quality report per run.

What happens if I re-upload a different caption file?

Re-alignment replaces the three retime artifacts in place. Your original uploaded file is preserved separately.

Can I attach captions before the run completes?

Yes. Upload at run creation — when the run finishes, alignment fires automatically and the retimed files appear as standard artifacts.

Does this work with translated captions?

Not yet. We guard against language mismatch between your caption file and the detected media language. To get captions in another language, turn on translation when you create the run (+1 credit per minute).

How is this different from re-transcribing?

Transcription produces new text. Retiming preserves your existing text. Use retiming when the wording is already right — after editor review, legal sign-off, or human translation — and only the timeline has changed.
